Nintendo Media | Diddy Kong Racing DS Screens/Boxart

By Jorge Ba-oh 18.12.2006 24

Nintendo/Rare have released a selection of screens from the upcoming Diddy Kong Racing DS port, bringing the popular Nintendo 64 classic to the handheld - once more confirming Wi-Fi capability.

The 1997 original featured high-speed racing action spanning 5 different worlds, and various cute and furry creatures to race with using 3 different vehicle classes - car, hovercraft and plane.

The DS version is said to feature numerous changes, a few in the overworld/Advenrure Island where Taj the genie will have a tent as opposed to a face plate - several visual enhancements - trees etc. Silver coin challenges are said to be replaced by Magic Carpet riding.

Due to licensing issues Banjo and Conker are replaced by the Nintendo owned Dixie amd Tiny Kong.

For more screens and updates be sure to check out the Diddy Kong Racing Game Page. Thanks to GoNintendo for the update.

Very nice, looking forward to this one. Any word on what the Wi-Fi stuff will be on it?

How many tracks are in this game? Looks interesting.

I think the changes and additional Wi-Fi capabilities definately make this a worthwhile purchase. Smilie

Let's hope it play well!

awww, that sucks about banjo and conker not being there as that was my main reason for buying the original.

Still won't stop me from buying this gem. Smilie

WiFi sounds great. Took me a while to finish the originally, so the new challenges sound cool. This was always fun in multiplayer. I don't think Conker and Banjo will be a bad point, I always used that Turtle anyway as he was the best!

I look forward to playing this on Wi-Fi and just hope its popular enough to work.

Aye, I did use Conker from time to time though, but Tip Tup rocks!

Sounds interesting, I enjoyed playing the N64 version...will have to keep an eye on this.

The N64 version was epic, let's hope the DS version can be even half the game

I am really looking forward to this game. I spent a helluva long time playing the N64 classic, I have a feeling this will be fixed in my DS for many months!

Great game...Full of rare charm...Thankfully i'm fully prepared to play this game as it was intended on my N64...Smilie

Dude yuor totally awesome. And i won't be killing you anytime soon.

I love this game! full of charm

No Banjo or Conker. Aw Smilie

(shoulda expected it really, eh)

I suppose I'll have to wait until Banjo Threeie for the 360. And realise how much crapper it'll be than the N64 duo.

Smilie

At long last, I was begining to think Rare scraped it, but at last some screens and confirmation has come out. I'm really looking forward to this and it was only the other day I started a new file on the N64 version. What a great game!, but i'm worring that Rare will mess it up making it on DS. Hopefully this wont happen though and we can all look forward to the Wi-Fi capability's it's offering.

Ah, yes. Such a classic. What nostalgia. The memories. I. Love. This. Game.

The Wi-Fi functionality and numerous enhancements sound extremely promising. Tis truly a shame that Banjo & Conker are not able to join the party, but I'm looking forward to playing as Dixie and Tiny. Timber was my favorite, though. Smilie

Chance favors the prepared mind.

Thankfully, with the Kong family tree being so ripe with quality breeding, no barrel-scraping was required when replacing Banjo and Conker.

Less posty, more gamey.

Have you ever followed a Rare release before? They hardly give away any information, its not unusual.

I remember ages back they said a track editor was in it, any news if they still have it in the game?

I didn't play the N64 one nearly as much as I would have liked to... This better be Goddamn awesome...

Still a proud member of the 'omfg amazing water in games' society

I played the N64 one for absolutely ages. Great game.
