Nintendo Wii Media | Splinter Cell: Double Agent in Action

By Jorge Ba-oh 31.10.2006 16

Fresh hands-on footage from the upcoming Splinter Cell: Double Agent has hit the interweb with Sam Fisher once again heading into the darkness in an all new adventure for both current and next generation systems. Just how does a traditional game adapt for the Wii control system?

1up recently had some playtime with the Wii build, confirming some of the unique aspects of the motion sensing version, along with some sneaky footage:

  • Aiming over Sam Fisher's shoulder as with every other version.
  • On-screen targetting has a "dead-zone" to allow for steady aiming without uncomfortable movement with slight changes.
  • Wii-mote used as camera, to move, aim the remote off the screen.
  • 1/2 buttons used for whistling/sticky aiming.
  • Small triangle stays on screen whilst in 3rd person mode to indicate where players are aiming.
  • Nunchuck used for regular analogue movement.
  • Whilst beside a wall a horizonal swing on the nunchuck allows Sam to back up against it. An upper flick is used for jumping.

Double Agent hits retail alongside the Wii this Winter.

Stick with C3 for future updates..

Hate to be Mr Negative but Splinter Cell games have always looked impressive, I'm still not completely convinced about the Wii control, but there we go Smilie

Doesn't look too bad graphically or control wise. Jumping by flicking the controller up will eventually become a pain I would think.

This may do well... this may do well.

Looks to be another good game butchered by the Wii.

Fucking sucks that we get a god damned PS2 port, it sounds like bad news already for cross platformed games Smilie I hope they fucking get some sense sooner rather than later.

We(GCN owners) got shafted all the time by getting the fucked up shitty versions ported from the PS2 before, lets hope they don't keep it up.

Wow... That didn't look anywhere near as absolutely apalling as that other website made it sound... Maybe I'll just wait a bit and get it on the Wii. Doesn't look bad at all to be honest...

Same. They're making too many versions.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

i've read that the controlls aren't good executed in the wii version Smilie

    This looks alright...

"sighs" I'm gonna wait until this game is not only reviewed but but self-demoed by moi before I'll make up my mind as to whether or not it deserves my cash.

right, OLU! I think with all the controls these days on Wii no one knows for sure if they are well suitable or not. Even these IGN, Gamespot or other guys do not play the games for a long time. They may feel a bit awkward or clumsy at first, but remember, that we are going from button smashing to waving. It's a whole other control set. I beg you not to start mumbling (or Grumbling!) over all the controls. You are buying Wii, so go and try it out for yourself. Jump over your 'press buttons and be happy about it' shadow.
Wii control scheme is more than ordinary Joypads a thing of 'feeling right'.

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

Despite all the negative previews this video makes it look quite good.

I'll wait for the reviews to decide.

    Exactly

Mike Gee of iZINE said, "...The Verve, as he [Richard Ashcroft] promised, had become the greatest band in the world. Most of the critics agreed with him. Most paid due homage. The Verve were no longer the question mark or the clich. They were the statement and the definition."

even if the controls are awkward you learn through trial and error dont expect ubisoft to get it right on the first try. The Wii controls are new to everyone so dont go bashing it until you have tried it. Regardless of that it still looks great just like all of the other nintendo splinter cells i love the way it looks i'll see if i can rent it. then i'll pass judgement
