Nintendo GameCube News | Zelda: Twilight Princess Dated in Europe

By James Temperton 26.10.2006 116

ONM, the UK's Official Nintendo Magazine, have today revealed that the GameCube version of The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess will hit shelves across Europe on December 15th, one week after its Wii counterpart. Of course this version will also work on the Wii, so if you are after Zelda with traditional controls just like God intended, then you only have to wait a week and then you can play GameCube Zelda on your Wii. Isn't that lovely?

Nintendo's reasoning for the week-long gap is to meet demand for both the GameCube and the Wii versions. An alternative view might be to say that it is a great way for them to make money, but that would just be us being sceptical...

So fucking what? The game was designed around the GC controller. End of. Now stop being a retard before I get accused of trolling.

Feel accused.

Anyway, it may have been originally designed for the gamecube controller but I do not see how the game will be adversely affected on the Wii when they have spent such a crazy amount of time reprogramming the game and the controls.

Woooooooo!!!

They shouldn't have left the gamecube controls out of the Wii version. Now anyone who wants to play the game using a gamecube controller but does want to try the Wii controls out to see how it plays has to fucking buy TWO goddamn versions of the same fucking game!

IT'S NOT ABOUT FUCKING PROGRAMMING!!!!!!!!!!1!!!

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

I'll be getting the Wii version...unless previews say the gamecube version is better...i can wait a week

Avoid Games Like the Plague, productivity++

lovely. i want both. mad Zelda collectin'

I'll be getting the Wii version, but I'm still a tad unsure about the controls...
Ever since they reworked the controls they've had more positive reviews, but I'm not sure if it's going to be as good as an old-fashioned controller.

If anyone's interested there are some SPOILERS on TheHylia worth checking out, including the items you get in the opening of the game, the storyline etc.

hey thanx JB! ill probably end up getting both versions! Smilie

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

Firstly, you're in no position to say that they've spent any particular amount of time reprogramming 'Twilight Princess for the Wii. All you can say for certain is that they've ported it to the Wii, and substituted the GC controls for Wiimote controls (I'm resisting the urge to call them tacked-on). They've also tinkered about with the way the 'Twilight Realm' is presented in the game. That's about it, by all accounts.

A years worth of work on the actual content of the game, or a year largely spent porting a finished GC game to the Wii, while holding back the release of the GC version (the original version)? I think it's the latter, to be honest.

And they're cunts for holding back the GC version this long, and then dribbling it out a week after the port! Still, we've got it better than some others. I'm still getting the GC version. It'll be better (it was meant to be played on the GC, with GC controls), and then there's also the principal to think about; Should I spunk

Time for your medicine Grumbler!

Here's a thought though. What makes you so absolutely 100% sure that the delays to this game weren't used to alter dungeons, change puzzles, tweak AI, and generally twist the game design to suit Wii-based controls?

Perhaps the game is now built for Wii. That's the thing: we won't know until we play both versions of the final game. Try reserving judgment rather than being superior.

Same goes for you too Oni. We don't know what they've changed, but you think that the best colletive minds at Nintendo have spent a year sitting on their arses, porting a game (does it need to port when it's the same architecture?), adding a few controls and not changing anything else to make sure the controls work well with the rest of the game. Does that really, really, honestly sound likely to you?

Oh, and the Wii launch looks stunning. Trauma Centre, Elebits, Excite Truck, Monkey Ball and Wii Sports all look like great games.

I can kind of see why they would make a Wii version, this way Nintendo can earn lots of money, probably more than when they would only release it on GC. (They are a company after all)

But why not make one version? One version on a gamecube disc(s) which, when played on gamecube, offers you gamecube controls and on Wii, Wii controls AND gamecube controls. They could just put "GC/Wii" on the box and sell it, and it would sell bloody well to millions of gamers around the globe.

Instead they choose to fuck over gamers like me who want to try both versions?
This is why Nintendo really isn't any better than Sony or Microsoft.

That's the point, though. They probably finished the Wii version about six months ago Smilie They just had to wait for the console to be released. Come, everyone knows what I'm talking about. Even you know, in your heart-of-hearts, this is a GameCube game that's been put on the back-burner because the Wii's launch line-up is utter pants, and it needs a big-franchise game. Thus, they cannibalized the GC version, and ported it to the Wii. Fin.
