Nintendo News | Zelda GameCube, Wherefore Art Thou?

By Jorge Ba-oh 12.10.2006 48

With Link making appearances on both the Wii and GameCube toward the end of the year, there has been confusion as to where players can obtain a copy of the GameCube edition with certain regions having online-only policies.

Yesterday Nintendo of Japan announced that the GameCube version of Zelda could only be bought online.

Today, Nintendo of Greece issued an email to members of their online club that translates to: "A special offer for all registered members of http://www.nintendo.gr this week. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess releases in December for the GameCube, you will not find him (Link) in the shops but only on the online electronic store."

However, for the remainder of Europe it seems Link will be in the usual stores to buy offline. According to our Nintendo UK representative, "Zelda on GameCube will be available via the usual retail channels in Europe."

We can safely say that this should apply to North America as well, but await official confirmation on the issue.

Thanks to C3 reader Mr. Ashcroft for the tip on Greece. Stay tuned for updates.

My ass will I be able to find it in a shop in the UK.

Makes sense though, what with nintendo disappearing from shops, hardly anywhere has gamecube games anymore v_v...

So it does make sense, shame you can't find them anywhere, since i want to buy some new games like baiten kaitos 2.

I'd be unimaginely pissed if that were to happen here.

Dude yuor totally awesome. And i won't be killing you anytime soon.

I think they'll reserve some Wii shelf space for the Zelda Version of Twilight Princess, or a shelf of its own - to distinquish the two versions more than likely - that or a POS cardboard unit to hold Zelda specifically with the two versions.

The Wii control feature should be an unlockable extra after completing the GC version. That way we dont get screwed over waiting for release dates.

If you don't have the Wii, you can play it through once for the inital crack, and when you get the Wii, you play through again with Wii controls. Would be a pretty nifty thing to add replay value.

heh, I've had it pre ordered since June 05.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

I went to HMV last week in oxford st and they only had like 6/7 different games for GC.... Smilie

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

Whatever, I'm getting it on the Wii because I want that extra graphic quality and better gameplay.

Nintendo had pretty much got rid of the gc version. Slowly, the game has become less about gamecube and more about Wii.

No were to buy GC games here so it's pretty much online only for me anyway.

Nintendo are cannibalizing the GC version, and I think that's fucking disgusting. Some of us had our hearts set on this game last christmas. Is it right that we should be made to wait another whole year, and to try and make us spend an extra

But her in America, we gotta' wait 'til after we get the Wii to get our Zelda on GC...Why...WHY!?!?!?!

CHICKEN! Gonna catch me some 'COONS!

And what gaming company isn't like that?

I'm all for the Wii versoin. Ive totally went off the Gamecube version and i'm glad Nintendo are making it the Wii. I f people want the Gamecube version that bad they will wait.

I would prefer the gamecube version personally, i've had the game pre-ordered since june 05 so i want this game enough to wait a bit longer, i donno why even though the Wii version could be better i still would only want the gamecube version, maybe because i'm use to the controls

Marzi-pan. It's a sweet, without the hyphen.

Not sure what to make of the news, I might want to get a Wii + Zelda or the GC version to save money. Hmm.

{Guild}Ohmdal: oops wrong chat

Yeah I'm not sure how to take the news either. Whatever happens, whether it's online only or not, my online pre-order for the GC version is already done.

As for everyone generally, they do seem to be ignoring the GC version to such an extent that it's gone into the shadows. At the same time, as many have said, the GC has been dead in the mainstream for a while now. Twilight Princess in it's entirety wouldn't do as well as it would in this situation.

I'm glad they'll be releasing it in stores... hopefully it'll be made available in Truro GAME (Ninty friendly)

If not, I'll order it in store...
