Nintendo Speculation | Square Enix Confirms Mana Wii?

By Adam Riley 06.10.2006 12

In an interview with the gaming press today Kouichi Ishi, the Square Enix guru that has worked previously on games such as Final Fantasy I through to Final Fantasy III, as well as being strongly involved with the World of Mana resurrection project.

In the interview he mentioned something that has been rumoured for a while now - the idea of the Mana franchise heading over to the Nintendo Wii. Electronic Gaming Monthly published a rumour about a Mana MMO coming, but who knows. When asked about it, Ishi said "The idea is currently being considered with a lot of forword momentum. In general there is a great amount of possibility for development on Wii. It presents tremendous potential."

In addition to this tantalising tidbit, Ishi was quizzed about fans asking about the possibility of a Secret of Mana remake, to which he responded: "If the fans want it, we will certainly consider doing so."

Finally, in response to questions about the Virtual Console, whilst Square Enix's finalised line-up has yet to be decided, an independent Mana is "currently being considered". Could this mean a re-working of Seiken Densetsu 3 for the Western market? Let us hope so!

Some very pleasing comments to mull over, certainly. Be sure to share your thoughts below and stick around for further updates...

Children of mana got so repetitive after a while...

"A,A,A,A,A,A,A,A,A,A,A...low life..Y,A,A,A,A,A,A,bunch of emenies to attack,B,A,A,A,A,prefer to use hammer insted...X,X,X,X,X,X,X,X....

Avoid Games Like the Plague, productivity++

Well as it is Squenix I will have faith in a good effort for the Wii.

Woooooooo!!!

Fucking yes. Make it happen Squenix.

What the hell? Have you even played the game? What hammer?

SE so called threesome of all consoles, looks like Nintendo is getting a bit more than it's competitors.

Mike Gee of iZINE said, "...The Verve, as he [Richard Ashcroft] promised, had become the greatest band in the world. Most of the critics agreed with him. Most paid due homage. The Verve were no longer the question mark or the clich. They were the statement and the definition."

yeah, children of mana sucked pretty badly

Please a secret of mana remake.
Somebody create a petition for that T_T

Super, am playing through the early FF titles and Secret of Mana on the SNES at the moment. Smilie

Hah! I am NEVER going to touch the Secret of Mana until the price in gamestation drops from

I am very positive about every RPG and every Square Enix title. But Children of mana is very ...low. Battle gets repetetive after a short while. Which is a bit sad, because story, world and ideas, characters, locations, cactus-house... everything is very cute and wonderful. Like ZeroSimon says... But I think only battle system of Children of Mana is ...bad.

I do hope for Mana-games on Wii. My first thought: No, no MMO please, but why not? It may be fun. But please don't make it expensive. I am no multiplayer-jerk, escpecially when you have to pay for more then the game.

But remakes or new Manas? Go, Square-Enix! Do it!

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

They're called turn-based RPGs...

Still a proud member of the 'omfg amazing water in games' society

The thing is, it's not really turn based. But Children of Mana did suck.
I do wish, out of the bottom of my heart, for Seiken Densetsu 3 though.
I got the ROM and a translation, I couldn't get enough of it.
Then I played Chrono Trigger, I hope they remake that for the DS too.

Well I played only sword oh mana, pretty crappy though.
