Nintendo News | Winning Eleven/Pro Evo Wii?

By Jorge Ba-oh 27.08.2006 10

During LGC last week, Game Informer spoke to Senior Producer Shingo "Seabass" Takatsuka on the upcoming Winning Eleven sequel, and the prospect of bringing the game to Wii.

Game Informer: You only released one Winning Eleven for the GameCube, (Ed: Winning Eleven 6 Final Evolution in Japan only) what kind of plans do you have for Wii?

Seabass: That's not a next-gen engine (laughs) but I shouldn't say that for good reasons. The graphics are not really the same as the 360 or PS3. But the controller is simply unique. We are already discussing with Nintendo

Let's hope Wii gets WE/PES, it's a pretty important game here in Europe. They could use the classic controller too.
And by the way, what about that "soccer game" by Konami that was in the "games currently in development for Wii" list released at E3 this year?shouldn't it be WE/PES?

Mike Gee of iZINE said, "...The Verve, as he [Richard Ashcroft] promised, had become the greatest band in the world. Most of the critics agreed with him. Most paid due homage. The Verve were no longer the question mark or the clich. They were the statement and the definition."

PES will already be in dev for the Wii, hence the 'soccer game' that was listed by the company. But what bugs me is, just like IGA with Castlevania, people moaning about implementing the Wii controls! Smilie

Couldn't the soccer game be the infinitely more gimmicky and probable ISS?

Yeah, I hope so too. Just flick the wiimote in the direction you wanna kick. Slide it along to slide tackle, the harder you flick, the farther the ball goes. Smilie

*Or u could just use the classic controller*

(About three people posted between me saying this so if it sounds disjointed, u know why)

Yes! real football! That will kick FIFA's butt. I dont know how long ive waited for a decent football game on a Nintendo system.

First I want to clarify one thing: it's not that I don't want it to use the Wiimote...truth is I'd love that, but I said "use the classic controller" because if the controls are a problem I'd better get a classic-controller WE/PES than NO PES at all. ^_^
Anyway you know what I see now? All these developers and their doubts about the controller...but if the Wii sells millions, and this could very well happen, they're all going to jump on the winner's wagon and praise the controller and adapt their games to the wiimote without any complaining.
@jesuraz: so can I rely on that list and think a Wii PES is likely to appear =)?

Yes, absolutely. They are getting lazy already concerning the Controller. I have feared that.

And it's a foul stench stating that 'oh no, our game is not redy for this controller' in the words 'No, our game requires to use the classic control scheme...'
How revolting!

EVERY Game is tweakable to work with the Wiimote!
* Castlevania: 'steer' with Nunchuck and use whip with Wiimote
And I didn't even think for more than 3 s and came up with this control scheme on a Sunday evening in the middle of watching 'Star Trek TNG'-episode 'Firstborn' - so I was distracted!
* PES: see dojo99's post
* Devil May Cry: the same. Use the sword with Wiimote-swishes and fire Ebony and Ivory with a crosshair on the screen like a lightgun-shooter.

So where the heck is the problem with the Wii-controller?

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

Laurelin,

I understand what you are saying. I've said the same thing about a control scheme for a first person shooter. What developers want is to have each console with the dual analog control scheme. Developers have stated that it makes games easier to port.

The problem is that the Wii controller is new and most developers are used to working with dual analog controllers. Therefore the Wii controller will move them out of their comfort zone. Some developers are going to resist this change. We all remember when the developer of Katamari Damacy stated that he would not develop his game for the DS or the Wii. He stated that he did not like a controller having that much control of a game.
