Nintendo Wii News | Ubisoft and Midway Promise Wii Support

By Jorge Ba-oh 02.08.2006 24

With recent news of EA bringing additional support to the Wii, both Ubisoft and Midway have confirmed a selection of projects in development for Nintendo's unique machine, despite various developers claiming the Wii isn't capable enough.

During the Ziff Davis Electronic Games Summit yesterday, Ubi's North American president Laurent Detoc noted that seven titles are in development for the Wii, two of which have already been seen public ally: Rayman Raving Rabbids and Red Steel.

He praised the Wii various times during his announcements, saying he expects the Wii to have "a large audience and market" for "The first time I picked up that sucker I couldn't stop playing it."

Midway also confirmed their support, with six titles in development. One of these presumably being the recently confirmed Mortal Kombat for Wii.

Whether these titles (aside from those mentioned above) are exclusives or multiplatform are currently unknown.

Stay tuned for updates.

Mike Gee of iZINE said, "...The Verve, as he [Richard Ashcroft] promised, had become the greatest band in the world. Most of the critics agreed with him. Most paid due homage. The Verve were no longer the question mark or the clich. They were the statement and the definition."

Didn't Midway only make like...6 games in their entire career?>-> Smilie

Midway also made (or maybe published, dunno) Rampage. Rampage is awesome! The one on GC isn't spectacular, but you do get the original aracde one (okay), and World Tour from N64 (great), all for $20.

I'm happy. Also, with Miday on board and and excited, we're more likely to get some of their games on the VC, like the Rampage games and all of those Mortal Kombat games.

Oh, and Ubisoft definately gets a big woohoo! Smilie

Yet more support comes our way, problem at the moment is the support is largely the same as the GC (with the exception of indie devs). Why aren't Ninty winning over the devs who largely ommitted the GC?

This is fantastic news indeed. Hopefully more 3rd party devs and publishers will throw their full weight behind Wii. Possibly those that havn't got much planned or have discounted Wii?

Chance favors the prepared mind.

Alternately, the seven games could be from the list we posted ages ago that retailers had:

- Rayman Raving Rabbids
- Red Steel
- Prince Of Persia
- Farcry
- Blazing Angels
- Monster Trucks
- GT

If that list is real, and I believe it is, it fits perfectly in terms of numbers for Ubisoft development. I wouldn't be surprised if there are other games they have lined up that haven't begun development or significant development either, such as the Lost game which is supposed to be coming to all formats sometime next year.

And good news that Midway are on board, even though they don't have the strongest franchises. The more, the better - it's a clich

i think your right mason it is definitely that list but these are developed by ubisoft they also have games that they just publish like brothers in arms and that dev recently noted their support for wii. i'd expect a sequel to beyond good and evil in the future once they've finished rayman. also prince of persia was a big hit last gen so it will be back. ubi have strong franchises and we'll probably see most. as well as some new in the future.

as for midway well mk id def, rampage is likey , spy hunter to tie with the film. i cant think of any more cos i dont ply midway games. didnt they get the turok licence? if so then that too.

on neogaf there is a supposedly leaked Ubisoft info on these games pointing out Turtles as one as well as Rainbow Six and LOST the game and a wii version of Assassins creed.

Although Far Cry seemed to be successful on the XBX and PC so there is a real possibilty

personally i would like to see
Rainbow Six
Assassins Creed
Brothers in Arms
Beyond good and evil 2
Far Cry, although i think one is a new splinter cell and prince of persia

Midway confirmed a rampage total destruction for the Wii

I love Ubisoft and now I love them even more!!

So let's see:
Rayman Raving Rabbits
Red Steel
Sadness (they're the publishers, shut up!)
Probably Tom Clancy
Plus three others

XIII Sequel! I've been praying for one since I completed the last!

It did say 'To Be Continued' after all.. or are they going to 'Heman' our asses?!

Oh there's that!! So that leaves two more...Far Cry possibly?

Here's hoping, what a lacklustre game...

*braces self*

Assassin's Creed is wishful thinking. It's probably not going to happen, looks far too much for Wii to handle. Rainbow Six on Wii was also denied by Ubisoft a little while back. Beyond Good & Evil 2 is definitely not in development, Ancel has said he may want to return to it at some point, but for now it's not happening. He's concentrating on Rayman Raving Rabbids. Even if Ubisoft have taken up Sadness, it wouldn't be included in this lot as they're not developing it, the impression I get is that all of these are being developed in-house.

Brothers In Arms and XIII 2 are possibilities, but they're not going to throw all their stuff in at once. I expect them further down the line. The list I posted above came from retail lists indicating them all for around year one, and it's a nice mix of surefire hits (Rayman, Prince of Persia), more experimental things to test the waters (Red Steel, Farcry, Blazing Angels) and random titles that will probably be budgeted fairly quickly (GT and Monster Trucks). They're not going to chuck out all their hits at once.
