Man, I cant believe the sheer ignorance and/or stupidity of some of these 3rd party companies. First off, When are they going to come to terms with the fact that Wii has a traditional style controller for ports, VC, and traditional style games (Smash: Brawl anyone?). They can scale back the game graphically (although, Wii is still very competent in that dept. IMHO), but if their smart (which they dont seem to be demonstrating) theyll make a game built from the ground up and make full use of all of Wiis capabilities.
It's not really a case of them critisising the Wii in these two examples.
Relic are basicaly saying: "We make this kind of game and it sells just fine and pays all the bills thankyou very much."
FRD are basicaly saying: "this particular game that we're making wouldn't really suit the Wii, we'd have to take more out of the game than we're willing to."
I'm sure we'll get something from Free Radical eventually.
You have to remember that not everything is scaleable in the same way that graphics are. If a game requires incredible physics or AI, that might have to be dummed down for such a lesser powered machine and in games depending on these features, this would RUIN the game. Developers don't want to ruin their games just for the sake of a Wii port.
As has been said in this thread already, the Wii will get it's fair share of games that simply cannot be achieved on the 360, PS3 and PC as well. We can't have everything on one machine - this has always been the case in video games, in the past it's usualy been for much more trivial reasons than these basic, fundamental technical differences.
It sure seems like they arent looking into the future and whats best for gamers and the industry. They have no vision. All the seem to be concerned about is making money and thats it.
It certainly is a shame that developers need to pay off their morgages, but sadly it's the case.
I bet you anything theyll change their minds once Wii is released.
I've no doubt things will look brighter in a few months time, as more developers are reassured that the Wii is a viable platform after the 3rd party nightmares that were the SNES, N64 and GC.
This bullshit stigma of Nintendo being a kiddie company has got to go. From my experience, everyone Ive spoken to who has had this warped thinking has been extremely ignorant to the kind of high quality games GameCube has to offer. So far, it looks like Nintendo is making huge strides to attacking this problem head on. Hopefully theyll be able to break free of this truly bogus stigma theyve been pigeon holed with.
i just hope they don't replace it with a
Manbag Matt from telesales image instead - that would be worse.
I actually agree with Der Segahund, Ive lost all respect for Rare since their shady departure from Nintendo. That was a real bogus transaction and they seem to have lost almost all their talent as a company. Most of their valuable employees jumped ship when they broke from Nintendo. Their new staff just dont seem to be any where near as competent.
I think it was more a case of Nintendo flogging Rare because most of the good top level designers had left and they weren't making anything decent. Microsoft were willing to pay top buck for them because they new the uneducated and naive would still buy into any old shit just because it has one of these on it.
