Nintendo Dates | THQ Confirms Euro Line-Up; Wii for October?

By Adam Riley 19.07.2006 23

Casting your eye over the following list from THQ Germany, you will see that according to it, the Nintendo Wii is due to launch sometime in October here in Europe. Could the list be slightly incorrect, or are the rumours of a late October release actually true after all?

  • Monster House (GC, PS2, GBA, NDS) - August, 2006
  • Cars (Xbox, PS2, GC, PSP, NDS, GBA) - 1st September, 2006
  • Age of Empires: The Age of Kings (NDS) - October, 2006
  • Bratz: Forever Diamondz (GBA) - October, 2006
  • SpongeBob: Kreature from the Krusty Krab (Wii, GC, PS2, NDS, GBA) - October, 2006
  • Cars (Xbox 360, Wii) - November, 2006
  • Alex Rider: Stormbreaker (GBA, NDS) - 4th Quarter, 2006
  • Avatar (Xbox, PS2, GC, PSP, NDS, GBA) - March, 2007
  • Now, it is worth noting that here in the UK Alex Rider is already out on GBA and NDS, as is Cars on both systems. However, until we can confirm whether or not these games are out in Germany, the list cannot be completely nullified, nor confirmed as truth.

If any of our German readers would like to help out, please let us know the information!

A late October release is looking more and more likley. Direct your attention to this image-

Notice the date at the top right, 24th of October, no?

It would make sense for Nintendo to aim for a late October release world wide so they can get the Wii out before the PS3 launches on November 17th

Indeed, it's the reason behind not divulging at E3 so this all sounds about right.

Kinda kills the PR spin of not competing though Smilie

Well it's only one game that suggests on October release anyway (spongebob), and as it's coming out on other platforms, I assume they thought putting October would be easier then putting "October, except for Wii where it will probably be November".

That's my theory anyway- I'm still expecting a November release.

I just can't wait for Zelda Metroid and even Madden Wii. Although I did here a rumour that Japan will get the Wii Friday 20th Oct. Not sure about the US or UK

That Red Steel box is real. It's the pre-order case from GameCrazy in America - and could confirm a launch on that date in the USA. However, I imagine it's just a placeholder date for now, and could work with the 6th November rumoured launch, as games sometimes come out a bit earlier than consoles so there's a teeny bit less of a rush for them.

Never trust pre-order dates. When I was working in Toys R US, we had Mario Kart DD down for an august release even though it had officially been pushed back further.

Nintendo will stick with their usual schedule and release the Wii in November for the holidays. They will probably start airing commercials in October.

EA has listed Need For Speed Carbon (Nintendo Wii version) to be released on the 3rd of november in Europe in its last planning.

they need to bring it out in nov cos i need to save money for all the wii things i want. it takes time.

Wii coming out in October would be so awsome!! lets hope its true!

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

Amazon.de says that Alex Rider: Stormbreaker is due out on DS there on the 31st of October, so this list does indeed seem plausible.

Alex Rider is already out for DS and GBA though...???...Hey, its a British film, maybe it (the film)is coming out later in other parts of Europe. I know it is coming out on, like, October 7th in the US (the film) Smilie

EDIT: Oh, and aren't THQ making any PS3 games in the near future?

    ( Edited on 20.07.2006 22:27 by dojo99 )

Alex Rider is out now, I've seen it. European box and everything.

It's starting to get interesting... October is looking more & more likely even for EU, & all of these rumours suggesting dates earlier than November... but we don't have Nintendo's Official word, & it seems the list has some dates crapped up (with games like Cars & Alex Rider already out)

So I won't get my hopes up Smilie

EDIT: I mean, I've SEEN Rider & Cars in the shops (THEY EVEN HAD IT ON GAMECUBE!!!!)

    So meh...

Aparrently EA said it was going to be released in Euope in October because they said NFS: Carbon was coming out for Wii in Europe in October. (This was of Spong though)

What kind of name is Carbon!? They may as well call the next one "NFS: Monosodium Glutomate" Smilie

Anywhoo, enough flaming NFS, I still believe it will be released in November, especially in UK or US, because of Nintendo's earlier Official statement about it being released around Thanksgiving time in US, which is November, no?

EDIT: Inserted key word (it in bold!!! Smilie)

EA replace their November 3rd date with a simple "Q4 2006", as they claim it was all a mistake...

There was a flurry of Internet activity and speculation after Electronic Arts listed a November 3rd release date for the Wii version of Need for Speed: Carbon in Europe. Could the date mean this was when the console would launch? Did that mean the console would launch before then elsewhere in the world? It seemed EA knew something we didn't, what with the PS3 version left with a "TBC" date while the Wii's seemed so definate.

However, the word from gaming site Eurogamer is that EA have now retracted the date, saying it was "put there by mistake". The title now has a simple Q4 release date instead.

Did EA let slip something Nintendo wanted kept under-wraps? Only time will tell.
