Square Enix is set to release is massive Nintendo DS remake of Final Fantasy III from the NES on 24th August, 2006 in Japan. Now, the company also supported the DS Lite launch in Japan with Seiken Densetsu: Children of Mana. However, as Nintendo had trouble getting enough systems out, with only the Crystal White version launching in the end, Children of Mana's first week sales were stunted and the game never fully recovered.
Therefore, it is understandable that the RPG behemoth of Square Enix is peturbed a similar situation may arise again with Final Fantasy III, given that Nintendo is STILL having some trouble with DS Lite stock. Shareholders have had their minds put at rest, though, thankfully as Nintendo and Square Enix have been in talks about just such an issue, with Nintendo making firm assurances that there will be very large numbers of DS Lites made available to satiate the high demand for the new role-playing title. With any luck this should help Square Enix claim the prize of second Third Party to sell a million units of one game!
Final Fantasy III is still set for a 2006 Western release, with the US supposedly getting in on 12th September. In the meantime, why not brush up on the game by reading C3's preview of the game:
