Honestly, I have not been able to use 100% of GameCube's power yet
as well, such as seeking new ways to package software just as Iwata mentioned today

I found this transcript very interesting, it helped me understand some things better. And - unlike other companies - got some more sympathy-points from me when talking economical. That's something I hate most about people usually, because the use an awful lot of shitty buzzwords (<-- that one is a buzzword itself) and you could hit score on bullshit-bingo very easiliy.

Yes, people dont understand consoles are like buckets.
The bigger they are, the harder they are to fill.
"Power" dosnt set the average graphics, it sets the MAX graphics.
Most developers, only have enough "Water" (budget) to fill a gamecube.
If they try to fill an Xbox360 or a PS3 your going to end up with far shorter games.
Why do you think Too Human was split in 3?
They simply couldnt afford to make the whole game, so they make it in 1/3rds.
There will only be a handfull of standout PS3/Xbox360 games that look truely amazing...only from developers that can afford it.
Most others will look like Xbox1/Gamecube games, with shallow last minute effects like over-the-top bloom blur.
I mean, what games look better ("as in real looking") then RE4 ?
None that I can see.
I can see ones with better textures..ones with better charecter mesh's, ones with better shaders.
But I see nothing that, *overall*, looks more realistic.
(ie. Having a ultra-realistic mesh on a charecter, only to have a shitly textured wall does nothing for a game.)
RE4 looked amazing because it took shitloads of manpower to make.
Theres no subsitute for that.

No one did believe me when I repeated this in this forum like a mantra and stated, that Wii has enough power to deliver the graphics needed.
I musn't have been part of those threads, as I've been thinking GC hasn't reached its limit for ages. That's why I thought next generation was coming too soon, Xbox and GC could clearly do much more than we'd seen, even if PS2 was probably reaching its limits.
Anyway, nice reconfirmation of some facts there and a good look at their philosophies, brilliant read. Cheers JB. :-

That development kit is very nicely priced, incidently..
Yeah, I meant to mention that - hell, I could afford one right now if I wanted one/if Nintendo allowed me...

Oblivion on the 360
Ghost Recon 3
Far Cry Instincts
new ways to package software just as Iwata mentioned today
Nintendo looks to be using a lot of wisdom going in to this next generation of home consoles.
If they're so into GREAT PACKAGING then how come the DS' cases are so UNNESSECARILY BIG!?!? (& Plastic!!)
Yeah, they can make great games, & they're also doing a hell of a lot to end the planet quicker
They could easily make the DS boxes smaller (even the US packages are smaller) & fold the manual or sommet, but why use all that unnessecary space!? So yeah, I hope the Wii packaging is good.
I'm guessing we got the bigger ones cause of thicker manuals. I think it's guranteed the wii is getting DVD cases.
"Oblivion on the 360
Ghost Recon 3
Far Cry Instincts"
Not by a long shot could any of those be mistaken for real life. Even for a instant.
A quick glance at the screen in Re4 and it looks like a film.
Seriously, have a look at them.
*THEY LOOK LESS REAL*
Even if they do have X,Y,Z nice effects.
oh, and oblivion Id like to say has really nice landscapes but;

The normal overkill on the bloomblur.
Its going to take games developers awhile to spot the real world isnt like that.
You only get bloom blur on extreamly bright things, and even then they have too much "spread" (must be at least 10-15 pixals in that pic).
Bloomblur was lovely in Prince of Persia...gave it a magicaly, dream like atmosphere..it fitted the game perfectly.
But it dosnt universaly fit every game, and (at least how its being used at the moment) it dosnt make things more real.
Ghost Recon also has a few nice points, specificaly the video post effects are a very nice touch.
However, a *typical* screenshot;

Very clearly inferiour in realism to Re4.
You see, it all comes down to textureing and modeling..these are the things that take the most effort to make, and these are the things that ultimately make games more real.

I don't think they meant packaging as in the box the game comes in, I think they meant is it packaged on DVD or is it a downloadable virtual console game? That type of packaging....

Totally agree with you. And I dont want games to be sooo real. I mean a realistic Call of Duty is going to be quite grotesque...
Thats a great point. I totally agree with u.
