Nintendo Wii Rumours | Price Delay, Buying Movies & More...

By John Boyle 16.06.2006 31

Okay, so as you may or may not know American gaming publication Game Informer runs a rumour column in it's magazine and has had remarkable accuracy with a great deal of the rumours. gamefront.de have posted up what it claims to be rumours from the rumour column and they concern the Nintendo Wii. These are:

  • System Shock 3 is in development by the same team who did The Godfather game. No system was mentioned however.

  • A price has not been announced for the Nintendo Wii because the verticle sensor that sits on the tv and reads the Wii motes movement is not yet finished. Nintendo will announce a price once it is finished.

  • At E3 someone saw a Jurrasic Park logo at a section that was "behind closed doors". This may point to movie downloads through the Wii hub.
  • The downloadable films one is interesting. No doubt with WiiConnect24 it would be an intriguing idea, however the fact that wiimovies.com has not been bought would suggest that the rumour is a bit weak. Could it be a Jurrasic Park game instead?

The System Shock rumour holds the most weight as a patent entry by EA at the beginning of the year was generally about System Shock and the System Shock brand. Another patent entry that caught the site's eye was that for the Square-Enix series "Romancing SaGa" as a trademark protection entry with the US patent office from 13.06.06 concerns the game. However it is merely routine that these are updated so don't hold your breath on that one.

Stick with C3 for all the Wii news, rumours and general gossip.

I think it's more likely to be another crappy House of the Dead rip-off... The previous ones were terrible and I doubt it'd be any different. Then again I suppose more games are never a bad thing, and if it's 'Mature' then it's another one we can throw in people's faces...

Still a proud member of the 'omfg amazing water in games' society

Bioshock is the real successor to System Shock 2.

    system shock 3 on Wii.

    Thats cool!

    "Very optimistic "

    Why?
    If you can
    a) download stuff
    and
    b) the system can play some video format

Then its already going to be possible to have movies on it.

oh, and 1Gig is about the size of a good quality movie, incidently.

And, on the same lines 45Minute tv shows are normaly just 350MB downloads.

Too big for the inbuilt space, but easily small enough for anyone that wants it. If the Wii supports SD cards, it supports FAT drives.
So its just a mater of using any old HD to increase its space.

And hosting the stuff and having the contracts with the various tv studios/movie companies to have the films to download it and to constantly increase the amount of films up for download. It'll cost too much and as most the films could be bought on DVD 90% of people won't go for it.

Possible, but since when have Nintendo gone for anything but concentrating on games?
