Nintendo DS Media | Mario Hoops 3 on 3

By Karn Spydar Lee Bianco 06.06.2006 6

Mario Hoops makes all your favourite Mushroom Kingdom residents available for some blazing basketball action on your DS, current playable celebrities include Wario, Luigi, Yoshi, Bowser, Princess Peach, Koopa and of course the main man himself; Mario! Players can create their teams from three of the available characters (the final roster of which has yet to be announced) and pit them against either a CPU controller opponent or some friends using up to four DS' and their wireless communication functions.

What separates this title from other sports titles (apart from it being developed by Square Enix of course) is it's use of touch screen for control input. Most aspects of the game, including basic actions like passing and shooting are performed by tapping and slashing away at the touch screen. We haven't got much in the way of Hands-on reports for the title just yet, but the whole system sounds impeccable to us, provided all goes to plan that is.

Mario Hoops will be making its way into stores later this year in the US, September to be exact, but in the meantime be sure to check out the new screenshots below. Stick with C3 for more updates soon!

This looks like a major hit from Square Enix! Great work Karn, thanks for the screens Smilie If this is a success I foresee many more collaborations in the future.

*Interested*
I still have my copy of SMRPG, mint as, along side ChronoTrigger and Children of Mana, I hope SMRPG gets the VC treatment, I've been looking for an excuse to revisit that AAA title.
No doubt you still own these too J'Raz? Smilie Thought so..

Missed the boat on CT, but have SMRPG, Bahamut Lagoon, Romancing Saga 3 and some other Jap RPG that I can't remember at the moment (stored in some box safely now Smilie)

The fact that Square Enix was the one that approached Nintendo about doing this is VERY promising. A Nintendo UK Rep once said there was a GC version AS WELL, but nothing else was heard. So, mistake or slip about a game now coming to the Wii? We shall see...

this game looks super sexy!!! I bet we gonna see some FF characters on the game!!!! Smilie

I see all these people insulting the Nintendo corporation because of the lack of mature content. Yet there is something about Nintendo (at least their games) that strikes a certain unadulterated feeling of joy!!!  Pokemon Y - 1048-9263-5562

this is one game that i am really excited about! just the whole idea of using the stylus to bounce and pass is awesome does anybody have an idea to when the UK will get it? !! Smilie

I love the idea of this game. Back when we saw the first screens of I thought this is exactly what I wanted the DS for. Tap the screen to bounce the ball! How awesome is that!?!?!
