Yesterday, gaming website TheWiire.com posted up an exclusive interview with Tecmo, developers of the new Wii title; Super Swing Golf Pangya. The interview was conducted with Tecmo's Product Specialist Ryan Arbogast and can be seen in full Here, alternatively you can read a summary of the main points that were raised below:
- Pangya Golf for the Wii will be the first non-PC release for the series.
- Kasumi from Dead or Alive will be a playable character in the game
- There is no online play, just normal multiplayer gameplay including Stroke Play, Match Play and a Special Mode where you have to hit balls through floating hoops.
- A new story mode will be present, allowing the unlocking of extras such as characters and costumes.
- An internal team headed by Kaguchi-san, (who also worked on Fatal Frame and Tokbot) will be developing the game.
- The game has been in development since January, it is currently estimated for a Q1 2007 release.
- Although nothing is planned yet, the possibility of new DOA (or other Tecmo franchise) has not been ruled out in terms of getting a title on the Wii.
- Any new Nintendo-related game developments for 2007 will be announced at the Tokyo Games Show.
- Tecmo are currently considering development for the DS, although nothing is currently confirmed.
- The team are intrigued by Nintendo's new WiiConnect24 service and may well incorporate it to allow for downloads of new characters and outfits, etc, in the same way as the previous PC title did.
- The Japanese development team have apparently found the Wii Controller to be "very easy to work with and a lot of fun."
- Arbogast compares the title to Guitar Hero and hopes that gamers will want to get involved in the game by standing up and really swinging the Wiimote, but the option will be available to play the game whichever way consumers want.
- The game wasn't playable at E3 due to its sketchy current form; however it should be playable at the Tokyo Game Show later this year.
