E3 2006 News | Sun and Times Papers Love Nintendo Wii

By James Temperton 10.05.2006 8

Quick News: Both The Times and The Sun ran stories on the Nintendo Wii and the general E3 2006 conference details over the last couple of days. The Sun article is a glowing hands on report of the console, a rather surprising editorial direction considering the paper's main demographic. The Times also have nice things to say about Nintendo's innovative new hardware. Links below.

Wow, superb news.

Sometimes being a Nintendo fan really is just the way to be. Smilie

Wii is unlikely to beat the big two in the UK sales stakes but if it's priced cheap enough, will surely become the second console in every home.

Innovative, quirky and above all - lots of fun - Wii might have a silly name, but it's Nintendo that will surely have the last laugh as gamers across the world move to its beat.

Probably the only news the Sun has ever posted thats on the ball! Smilie

Still, its nice to see major papers making a big deal out of the Wii, as it is a big deal for the gaming community. And to start off the column with, I've seen the future of gaming sums up what the console can do to a person, as The Sun still regards all consoles as kids toys. Still, nice to see the effort there making will meet the masses.

By comparison with the Xbox, or PS3, the Wii is low-tech, short on both power and graphic quality. But the Japanese firm is making a virtue of that - rather than appealing to the hardcore gaming nerds. The company wants the Wii to be considered cool, fun and accessible to non-gamers of any age.

Nice to see The Times have decided to stay in the dark ages as anyone who plays games is a 'nerd'! Maybe they didn't actually see Red Steel or LOZ with there 'low graphic quality'! And after the DS Brain Trainning write up, i thought they we're turning a corner! Oh well, at least they mention Nintendo stole the show.

Yup, both quite positive reports, obviously there is a bit of mass-media ignorance chucked in for good measure, but you can't ignore the headlines of those two articles, both of which are brilliant for Nintendo.

Trying to think of a witty signature after 'Hacker-gate'...

Wii will change the world.

Great stuff- the good publicity is a nice step forward for Nintendo. I'm sure that Wii will do fine in the UK, and even better in Japan!

Wii will do great in Europe, with the exception of the UK of course.
I though the Times article mentioned Zelda has great graphics? Or was that the Sun.
*goes to check*

Great news. It is good to see thatt`the media is praising it rather than putting it down.

Working like a fiend isn't very fun... and surprisingly isn't very fiendish either.

After some good publicity you get some stupid analyst going right on ahead, making a fool of himself, with a desperate 'payed by MicroSoft' kneejerk reaction that went a little like this,
"Nintendo will be in 3rd place, they can sell fewer consoles and make as much money" - Paul Jackson.
You tw*t, there is no logic to your theory, next time, read the memo. ****!
