They did render most of the controller-pictures. It's a common thing to do on these photos.
Take the new common-controller with the two sticks above - moentarily 2nd picture on the left, top row: You are not able to take a picture of this thing that easy, you have to strap it with invisible strings, hold it into the light, watch, that it does not turn around while shooting. Then you have to take these shots and work on in the computer anyway, so why not build a 3D-model, light it, put background in and render it? It's smoother to do.
Surely, the pictures where hands are holding these gadgets are photographed - at least partly - for real.
