This has to be on, or near the top of everyone’s most wanted list. It’s taken a while for details of what the radical changes would be to the new Mario Kart, but recently the facts just leaked through. The game will apparently be titled Mario Kart: Double Dash. The reason for it being named Double Dash is that – wait for it… there are now two characters in one kart! Any two characters can be combined with each other and each of them has their own special items that are unique to them. The classic power ups will still be there, but these special attacks will probably be centered around a particular attribute of that character (peach could attack with a brolley maybe?) You can switch characters at any time, so the one at the front driving the kart can hop onto the back and kick some butt – and vice versa for the other character.

The other major thing that’s been on people’s minds is the characters that are to appear in the game. There are more in this game than the original eight characters that starred in previous Mario Kart games (although some of this cast are actually missing). Characters that are heading to the kart tracks are confirmed as: Mario, Luigi, Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Koopa, Koopa Jr., Koopa Troopa, Paratroopa, Daisy, Birdo, Wario and Waluigi. Toad for one is nowhere to be seen, but he (along with others such as Sonic) may show up as a secret character.

It’s also been mentioned that the game will allow eight players to have an amazing racing experience by using the LAN link up system. For those not in the know, this involves linking two GameCube’s together with Broadband adaptors. With all this knowledge, we can only imagine what it’s gonna be like to actually play it!
