Last E3 was disappointing for Nintendo but the Virtual Console download service certainly helped Nintendo fans get to grips with the lack of other Revolution info. The thought of downloading retro games had Nintendo fans drooling in anticipation... and it seems like Sony were also keen on the idea.
Rumours are flying around that the PS3's backwards capability with the PS1/PS2 won't be as simple as popping the disk in and playing away. Rumours now suggest that you'll have to download them from Sony's online HUB for a small fee. Gamesindustry.biz cited an unnamed source saying:
"one source from the development arm of a major third-party publisher claiming that Sony has been discussing the technical feasibility of providing PSOne and PS2 titles over digital distribution with them."
This would certainly aggravate Nintendo who were keen on making the Virtual Console a key sales pitch for the Revolution. It may also spark Microsoft into action as their XBox Live Arcade service is quickly losing it's unique stance. Problems still are abound if the rumour is true though. Would this open the door to 100% piracy for PS1/PS2 games. How would such large download work? Storage?
No doubt we'll hear more of this approaching E3. So stick with C3 for the latest news.
