News: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass Out Now on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Who would have thought, that after 5 years after releasing on Nintendo Switch that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe would get DLC, especially since we have seen Mario Kart Tour and Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit release after it.

The new Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass features 48 remastered courses from across the Mario Kart series releasing in six waves, each including eight courses that can be played locally and online. Nintendo have stated that all six waves will be released by the end of 2023, which feels like quite a long way from the first wave to the last wave.

Anyone with a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership (either Individual or Family) can access each wave of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - Booster Course Pass for no additional cost as they are released. Alternatively the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - Booster Course Pass can be purchased individually for a one time fee available on Nintendo eShop, Nintendo's website or at various retailers, prices can vary so shop around for the best deal. Remember if the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack Membership expires then users will no longer have access to the Booster Course Pass.

The original Mario Kart 8 on Wii U received two DLC packs for $7.99/£7 each or $11.99/£11 as a bundle which featured 6 new characters (Link, Tanooki Mario, Cat Peach, Villager, Isabelle and Dry Bowser, plus Yoshi and Shy Guy colour variants), 4 new cups with 16 courses, a 8 new vehicles and 200cc mode. Don't forget the random Mercedes-Benz free DLC  which included three new vehicles. All of this additional content, along with a new battle mode were included in the Nintendo Switch release of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

So far the Booster Course Pass is just for new tracks, but who know's if even more content could be coming given that this was a bolt of out the blue.

Cubed3 will be reviewing the Booster Course Pass as each Wave releases so be sure to check back to see how each of the new courses perform.

If your family pass expires you lose the courses?

Any idea on animal crossing if your family passes expires with that dlc?

Should be the same deal. If you don't have the online expansion pass, you'd have to buy the dlc.

Even if you don't own the dlc in MK8 tho, you can still play the tracks online in global or regional races. You just can't select them offline in GP or time trials etc.

And if playing with friends online, only one of them needs to own the dlc for everyone to play the tracks.

So given most people don't bother with offline play, you will still most likely race on DLC tracks online anyway.

Animal Crossing is likely a different scenario and I would assume once your pass expires, you don't have access to that dlc any more.
