Mario Party 6......Off to a Slow Start in Japan! The annual success story of the Mario Party series from Hudson Soft appears to have hit a stumbling block at long last. Whilst many assumed that last year's Mario Party 5 would be the downfall of the mini-game party title, it actually went on to become one of the most successful GameCube titles of 2003 in Japan and is currently enjoying a minor resurge in the UK chart as part of the latest Player's Choice line-up. Therefore, with the inclusion of an innovative microphone device with Mario Party 6, it was practically a safe bet that at least half a million copies would be sold over the Christmas period, easily. However, this is where the snag becomes apparent as first day sales have been far lower than expected. After just one day on shop shelves, Mario Party 6, complete with free microphone, has sold a mere 31,000 units - a far cry from recent first week totals from other Nintendo games like Mario Tennis, Zelda: The Minish Cap and Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories. Whilst this figure does not look like the end of the world, Nintendo had more faith in it and shipped nearly 300,000 units out in its initial batch. Therefore, Mario Party 6 has so far sold about 12% of its first load, placing it behind fellow board game party title, Momotarou Densetsu USA on the PS2. This has sold 49,000, which is equivalent to 26% of its stock. We could still see a massive up-turn by the sales week end as you never know what might happen at this time of year in the charts...so stay tuned! Please Post Your Comments Below.
