Final Fantasy III DS...
...Nintendo Swoops & Collects!

Update

News has just filtered in that this story can now be confirmed as officially true. So there definitely will be a completely reworked version of Final Fantasy III from the NES brought to us all on the Nintendo DS and apparently using both screens and the touch-functionality! A superb blow to Sony...

Amongst all of the wonderful news that has been spilling forth today across the Internet, there appears to be one little snippet that not too many people have focused on and that is the news of a possible major Square Enix revelation.

The information leaked from the Seattle Press Conference suggests that after Nintendo requesting that Square Enix port the immensely popular NES RPG Final Fantasy III and the company deciding instead to revamp Final Fantasy I & II for the GBA instead, the huge role-playing development company has caved-in.

This supposed new project will not be for the GBA, though...oh no! According to the leak, Square Enix is about to unveil a complete reworking of the only Final Fantasy so far to never receive an official English translation for the Nintendo DS!

If this proves to be true, which most of the leaked information is looking like doing, then Sony's mouth will be firmly shut. After all, what would you prefer: watching FFVII: Advent Children in UMD format on the PSP that dies after less than two hours, or playing a brand new reworking of a classic NES RPG on the funky-looking DS?

I know which one I would go for...
