Zelda 30th Anniversary | Top 25 Zelda Music Tracks

By Az Elias 02.08.2016 5

The main Legend of Zelda theme is one of the most iconic soundtracks in all of video games, but it certainly hasn't been a one-trick pony; just about every game in the franchise has produced some of the most delightful and unforgettable music pieces over its 30-year history. With composers like Koji Kondo, Kenta Nagata, Toru Minegishi and Ryo Nagamatsu, to name but a few, contributing their own talents to Zelda soundtracks, there has been no shortage of great tunes to listen to. In another difficult task, the Cubed3 team shares 25 of our favourite tracks from across the series, as part of our continued Zelda 30th anniversary celebrations.

So much goodness here. Very difficult not to focus on a handful of games, since some OSTs are so strong. LttP, OoT, MM and WW all have all around brilliant soundtracks. I find the majority of the other games only have a select few standouts, especially the more recent games. I tried listening to the Skyward Sword OST again, but my god, I just find it so bland. This is one of my worries for BotW, now...

I really like what I've heard from Breath of the Wild, so far. The stripped down piano music really had a good impact on me. I thought it was refreshing and I felt it compliments the way game plays and the general vibe of the world really well. The music on the trailer was also amazing and I thought it would worked well as a main theme. I wonder if we'll hear reoccurring variations of it throughout the game.

I think overall, Wind Waker and Ocarina of Time are definitely my favourite Zelda soundtracks, but I love a few tracks off Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword. Faron Woods is one of my very favourites and I liked the Koloktos battle music.

In the Nintendo event I went to, we had headphones and it was pretty darn beautiful. Scary, stirring and atmospheric. Genuine feels!

My faves:
Forest Temple (OOT)
Twilight Princess overworld (TP)
Midna's Lament (TP)
Faron Woods (TP)
Lanayru Mine, Lanayru Desert, Lanayru Gorge (SS)
Windfall Island (WW)
... and more!

Some absolute tunes in this list. The title theme for Skyward sword is pretty awesome though Az, other than that it's a bit meh. My faves would probably be WW, OoT and MM, but I do like a smattering of Twilight Princess and Spirit Tracks as well!

Glad to hear that's the case for BotW. Listening back to the ALBW OST as well, I found the original tracks were not memorable at all, and the standouts were the remixes of LttP tunes. Add in my low impressions of the SS OST, and I've got some concern about BotW..! But that's reassuring to hear. Just miss the days of catchy, memorable tunes, instead of the ambient, atmospheric film-like scores that have become the norm in so many big budget games today.

I found that I grew to love the ambient tracks in Final Fantasy 13, but I have tried and failed to do the same for Skyward Sword. Sure, a handful of nice ones, but just hasn't done it for me. Will check out some of the suggestions in the comments again tho.
