Final Fantasy Creator Leaves......to Form Own RPG Company!News is just filtering in of what might initially concern several RPG fanatics around the world: the legendary creator of the Final Fantasy series, Hironobu Sakaguchi-san, has been forced to make a decision to leave Square Enix! In Japanese publication, Famitsu Weekly, it was made clear that Sakaguchi lost any real sense of responsibility back when the company was not teamed up with Enix and was solely known as Squaresoft. The reason behind this was due to the extraordinary investment that was Square's first ever full length movie, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, which ultimately left the developer in dire straits as it barely raked in any money due to a weak storyline detering people from seeing it at theatres. He did still receive 'Executive Producer' credits in both Final Fantasy X and XI, yet his role in both was minimal to say the least. There is positive news to come out of all this, though, and that is that he has now set-up his own independent development company, named Mist Walker, and plans on collaborating with infamous artists Yoshitaka Amano (Final Fantasy's character designer) and Takehiko Inoue (artist of popular comic series Vagabond and Slam Dunk). He is looking forward to creating his own console RPGs, most likely on the next generation of console systems - meaning that Nintendo fans could be seeing Mist Walker's titles on the DS, GB Evolution or Nintendo Revolution in the future... Mist Walker has actually been work in essence from May of 2001, although there are currently no details of its first major announcement as of yet.
