New Sonic Games to be Inspired by Classics on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

New Sonic the Hedgehog games will be inspired by the classics

SEGA of Europe Marketing Director Jon Rooke spoke to Marketing Week about the how the series has performed in recent years, recalling how "the quality of console games in the Sonic franchise hasn't been acceptable over recent years" and how Sega has aplogised for this.

He feels that it's been "tough translating that iconic side scrolling 2D experience from the 90s into 3D." New games in the long-running series, however, will be "inspired by how it played in its heyday."

Do you think Sega needs to return to the hedgehog's roots or Should Sonic retire with a bucket full of chili dogs?

Sonic Unleashed, Colours were decent - don't get me started on how shite Boom was,

They say this every single game. "Sonics Back!!!!" and then it sucks.

Obviously we have to wait and see what we get, but this certainly sounds like music to my ears.

In a nutshell...

I don't trust them. They said the same with Sonic 4 and just ruined it. I don't understand, they could have just used the same engine as Sonic 3 and made another 16bit style game. No, what we got was a shitty looking game that will age terribly.

The Adventure games were ok, I wasn't a fan of heroes, the less said about 06 the better, the story book games were buggy but playable. Daytime unleashed levels were fun and looked brilliant, the nighttime levels just weren't fun at all. Colours was probably the most fun and I enjoyed that more than Generations, not that Generations was a bad game but Colours was just more unique to me.

If anything Sonic will just be consigned to monetised iPhone games because those are the ones that probably make the most money.

The best Sonic games to be released since S&K were easily the advance series. The art style, the levels and the score are the most true to sonic. Personally I think Rush has aged terribly.

Ahhhhhhhhh....*sigh*

Agree with mostly everything here. I guess it's a good sign they've finally recognised and acknowledged they've shat over Sonic fans and Sonic himself over the last near-twenty years, but the fact they didn't continue with another Generations-like game, or even bother to port the ultimate HD versions of Sonic 2 etc to consoles, shows how clueless they really are. I'll believe it when I see it.

Some would argue that Sonic was flawed from the start and that it's impossible to make a good Sonic game. Right Marzy Smilie ?
