The creator of Super Mario Bros. feels that the series needs to move in a new direction.
Shigeru Miyamoto, father of the platforming plumber, was interviewed by TIME earlier this year on the series' 30th anniversary. With Mario having gone in different directions throughout the years: outer-space, turn-based RPG, puzzler and much more - Miyamoto feels that it's time to move "in a new direction."
He teased that Nintendo are "preparing to work on the future of Super Mario from here on," and how Super Mario Bros. needs a momentum shift going forward.
