Hironobu Sakaguchi was recently asked about his thoughts on how Final Fantasy VI has performed in the past.
The creator of Square Enix's popular RPG series wanted to address a chapter from the history books that suggests Final Fantasy VI did poorly on the market after its original release. He admitted that despite not selling well in the US, Square did feel "it actually did very well in Japan" and how it's made him "mystified, because I see Americans are playing the mobile version."
Sakaguchi believes that the size of the characters is something that's important to the American audience, "so from Final Fantasy VII onward, we used bigger characters. I think that's why Final Fantasy VII took off."
