In the latest edition of Japanese magazine Famitsu, Capcom's development team explained the name Monster Hunter X.
The latest entry in the ever-popular beast slaying franchise is embarking on a new tale on Nintendo 3DS later this year. With the game omitting a numbered entry, it's lead fans to wonder just why Capcom opted for the name "Monster Hunter X".
Pronounced Monster Hunter "Cross", the main reason for the move, according to producer Ryozo Tsujimoto, was "the force one feels from the 'Cross' that led to the choice of X."
Shintaro Kojima believes that it's a mix of "old and new elements" that "cross over" in the game, and how the "X" appears to divide "the given space into four… so four hunting styles, four large main monsters, four villages. They're all crossing."
Director Yasunori Ichinose noted how the concept of four "wasn't predetermined, but personally speaking, I feel things worked out rather nicely in the end."
Do you think the name Monster Hunter X works?
