Satoru Iwata Has Passed Away on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Nintendo of Japan have officially confirmed the passing of Satoru Iwata.

Iwata joined the industry as part of HAL Laboratory in the 1980s and was part of the team working on games such as Balloon FightEarthbound and the Kirby series. He became president of HAL in 1993.

He later joined Nintendo as a director in 2000, becoming president in 2002 and seeing the company through its unprecedented success with both the Wii and DS, as well as their successors.

He passed away on 11th July due to a bile duct growth. He was 55 years old.
