Introduction
Plok is a blip in history, one that barely anyone today still remembers. But this goggly-eyed character starred in one of the most exciting games on the Super Nintendo years ago. He, unfortunately, has failed to make a comeback and it could be a while before he returns because Rayman has well and truly stolen his thunder with his own limbless antics.
Statistics
Age: God knows. Well, maybe even God does not have a clue, since I very much doubt Plok is one of his creations. Oh dear...
Species: Akrillian - erm, maybe...
Location: The beautiful island of Akrillic, part of the collection of islands called Polyesta.
Birth: We know about Plok's grandfather, but nothing about his parents. There is one theory that he is made of clay and thus was made from his parents...but that is simply too weird and sick to even consider. Thus we will quickly move onto the next section...
Main Features: The crazy-looking character has a very cool flick-style red hair-do. In fact, his entire head is red, apart from his large, bulging white eyes. But rather than looking scary, like he could well do in the hands of another developer, Plok comes across as a cute guy that just wants his home to be left in peace.
Clothing: Plok either does not care what other women think, or the women of Plok's world have extremely strange taste. He wears a yellow one-piece outfit, with big red boots and large red boxing gloves...and that is all. Wonderful...
Concept
Plok is the King of Akrillic and found out that his beloved land has been over-ridden by pesky fleas. Therefore he goes on a mission, using his velcro joints, special limb-throwing abilities and his technique of being able to transform into various things like a fireman, unicyclist or rocketman to overcome the annoying pests.
Appearances
Well I could go into great detail about Plok's full roster of games...oh wait, no I could not, since he has only actually starred in one title:
- Plok! (SNES)
Thankfully one performance was good enough to place Plok is several people's hearts for a long time. Between the inventive style of gameplay, complete with special puzzles that took advantage of Plok limbless nature, the colourful graphics and the absolutely amazing soundtrack, complete with one of the catchiest theme tunes ever, Plok! will live on and the thought that Plok 64 was cancelled before it even started production is quite sad indeed...
Do Not Mention...
Yes, I am going to mention him again, Rayman. How would you feel if someone became famous by imitating your special abilities? Yes, Rayman. He needs to pay compensation to poor Plok who is in early-retirement because of him!
In closing...
If only Plok would be brought back. He was a breath of fresh air in the stale room of 2D platformers that were flooding the market in the 16bit years. If he was so impressive back in 2D land, just think what could be achieved if he wandered into the 3D field...Wow!
