Abe's Exoddus Remake Planned; New 'n' Tasty This Year on Wii U

Abe

Creator and co-founder of Oddworld Inhabitants, Lorne Lanning, has confirmed that a remake of Abe's second game, Abe's Exoddus, is planned, with Just Add Water returning to develop.

Fans voted for the remake to be the next project after Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty, the remake of Abe's original adventure, Abe's Oddysee, and fans will also get to decide on the title of the new game, just as they did for New 'n' Tasty.

The Abe's Exoddus remake is still very early in development, but it will be a ground-up remake, with Lanning saying its success will directly determine the quality of future Oddworld games.

In addition to this, Oddworld Inhabitants has reconfirmed that the Wii U and PS Vita versions of Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty are still in development, and will arrive later this year. The PS3 version is in its final development stages and will be out soon.

They've got the engine already, I can't see how they couldn't very simply remake the second one the same way they did the first one. Makes sense.

Glad to know the first one is still on track for release on Wii U this year, been waiting for it.

Massively excited. Exoddus was the one I played tons more than Oddysee.

Great news! Own both original games on multiple formats so am looking forward to this. I just knew the wiiu version of new n tasty would get pushed to the end of the queue. :-S

After exodus, I would love a new Abe game done in the same style. Munch and Stranger just aren't as good.

Wouldn't say it was pushed to the back. They've had to pretty much do releases incrementally and prioritise each system almost one at a time. First was PS4, then XBO, then PC, next is PS3, etc. They're a small team, but adamant they want to get on Wii U, despite having big issues with the 8GB limit of the basic system. It's good they're committed to systems like the Wii U and Vita when others would have made the easy decision to cancel or not even consider them.

Hopefully sales will do okay to warrant Exoddus' release on Wii U, as well, but who knows when the game will come and what situation the console will be in by then. Perhaps it will be NX by that time?

I think I'm just annoyed that the XboxOne version got announced like half a year after the WiiU version is all. Smilie

That's fair. I imagine all sorts of factors come into play. How long had they been working on XBO version in comparison to the development and issues they were facing on Wii U? Did XBO sales make the XBO version more of a priority over Wii U? If the issues were causing them to take longer, getting an XBO version out sooner must have made more sense. I totally see where you're coming from, though. But it will be worth the wait - it's a top game.
