Sonic Boom Producer on why the Games Flopped on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

In an interview, Sonic Boom producer Stephen Frost discussed the fallout from the critically panned games.

He started by recalling how SEGA had intended to "reach a larger audience with Sonic - to make him relevant again." He acknowledged the dedicated fanbase, but feels it's getting "smaller and smaller" each year.

Frost noted how Sonic Team knew about the franchise inside out, but the folk working on Sonic Boom needed to "catch up to 24 years of experience in on [development cycle]" and how they were being asked to "reinvent Sonic, to try something different."

Frost acknowledged how "the failures of the game were [of] it being overly-ambitious initially, and the fact that not only were we trying to make a basic Sonic game but we were trying to add to it."
