Is Wii U the Best Second Console of Choice? on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata has spoken about the Wii U's situation, and how he feels about the console's performance so far.

In the midst of news that Nintendo are committing original titles to smart devices and PCs, it's left consumers wondering what the company intend to do with the Wii U. With a selection of games out in 2015, in addition to efforts devised by Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto, the console does appear to have some life to it still.

Acknowledging the situation in an interview with TIME magazine this week, Iwata stated that he's "not satisfied with the current situation," and feels that the system could well be "the best second console" of choice for consumers.

Do you agree with Iwata's comments - is the Wii U the best option for a second console?

To me personally no. But sadly yes for far too many. While I am no fan of triple A blockbuster titles like Battlefield, Assassin's Creed etc. etc. so are those very important to some customers and to them the Wii U can never be the main console. But it IS the best second option due to the heavy number of exclusives.

The difference between illusion and reality is vague to the one who suffers from the former and questionable for the one suffering form the later.

There are a lot more reasons than those why some people might prefer non-N systems over Nintendo's right now. I personally don't play those franchises (and many other popular ones), but the PS3 and PS4 have got used more than my Wii and Wii U in the last two gens. It shouldn't be sad to you that people have different tastes and prefer one system over another. I love Nintendo's games and will continue to buy them, but I shouldn't be deemed as sad and one of "too many" that prefers PS4 over Wii U right now. It shouldn't even matter what systems people prefer.

Of course Wii U is a great system to have as a second console, though, just as the Wii was previously. From others' point of view, the PS3 and PS4 could be seen as great second consoles to go alongside their Wii and Wii U. What does it matter?

It is not that others have different opinions that I find sad, but the fact that these triple A multiplat games does not get released on Nintendo systems. I might have formulated that badly. xD

Nintendo consoles deserve to be better than that.  Hopefully NX will reverse the trend.

I'm overly satisfied with my Wii U to the point that it is my main console, but I would agree that it is the best second console to have, purely for the fantastic exclusives. Xbone/PS4 share too many titles to warrant me owning both of them. They both have a small number of games I'm interested in, but I'll probably end up picking PS4 eventually.

I got my 360 very late into the Wii's lifecycle, but I've never valued one over the other. I don't really classify my consoles as main, second, etc. Likewise if I got a PS4, I'd still get plenty of playtime out of my Wii U.

At the end of the day, it all boils down to the personal preferences of the individual. I'm an open-minded gamer, but Nintendo is my main priority. Smilie

Wii U and PC <3

All I need... Until Uncharted 4 comes out. Fuuuuuuuuuuu!

There are some great games on Wii U but if you generally don't enjoy Nintendo games then it's not really a great console of choice. Yes, there some people out there who could never enjoy games like Mario Kart, Smash Bros, mario or Zelda, after Nintendo's core franchises there's very little else to be played on the Wii U other than a handful of 3rd party titles but most of these don't warrant the time.

I'd say that all my systems get generally equal attention. Though I've noticed that I had far more games on the Gamecube and Wii then I did on the other machines in their respective generations.

Me and my partner got an XboxOne on Monday so we're now owners of all 3 current gen consoles (the WiiU is mine and the PS4 his). Out of the 3, I much prefer to use the WiiU. I find the interface a lot easier to use with the PS4 and X1's dashboards being messy and frustrating to get around.

I'm starting to prefer the X1's controller to the PS4's due to the extra "click" the X1 produces and it just feels great Smilie Saying that, the WiiU Gamepad is just fantastic when used well. ZombiU and DeusEx in particular are both enhanced greatly with it. Obviously that's not the case for a lot of WiiU games but when it is used well, it's fantastic. Then there's the option of playing games on the gamepad which gets used a lot when the TV is being used up.

IMO he GameCube had a better breadth of Nintendo IP. Still think it had a better library of games than the Wii U does. Not knocking re Wii U but so far it's library isn't as good.
