Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode III was Planned on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

According to former Sonic the Hedgehog 4 brand manager, a third episode was planned but cancelled.

Speaking to a fan, he outlined how the follow-up to the luke-warm platformer was initially intended to be released, but scrapped. He teased that music found in the second episode was supposed to be used in a cutscene that had been removed from the game, but he's unable to share any further details.

"The project will likely never see the light of day," he concluded.

With that in mind, and a poor reception to the first two episodes, it does sound like the popular hedgehog has had his day in the 2D/side-scrolling scene - for now.

Do you think SEGA could have done Sonic the Hedgehog 4 far better? Can Sonic relive his golden years?

It should have never been labeled as a sequel. It made no progression from the 3rd game and took too many steps backwards. Throw in too many rehashed zones, ugly graphics and terrible physics and it was doomed from the start.

Exactly, I don't get how they could have fucked up so badly. Fuck sake just revise the Sonic 2 engine or 3&Knuckles and create a damn game. I'm perplexed! They are both monstrous editions to the Sonic universe and it shames the great work that Sega did between 1991 and 95!
