Did Nintendo Have a Strong Black Friday? on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Research Firm Infoscout has highlighted less than impressive consumer feedback on the recent Black Friday sales.

The post Thanksgiving sales event focused strongly on consumer electronics, and in the US, retailers had posted heavy discounts on consoles and bundles. Consumer feedback highlighted strong demand for the Xbox One, and PlayStation 4, with the Nintendo Wii U lagging behind with 6% share.

Data was gathered from over 180,000 receipts via a smartphone app, with actual sales data anticipated with the next NPD figures. The report does, however, highlight top console purchases in two major US retailers - Walmart and Target.

I actually know several people who were buying Wii U's at Wal-Mart over the weekend because Wal-Mart exclusively has the Mario Kart 8 bundle in the US.

That's surely a silly move by Nintendo to give a mario kart exclusive bundle to Wal-Mart. I know they are one of the largest retailers but surely their biggest drawing game should have a bundle in every store!

Nintendo's presence in the UK stores I've been to recently (supermarkets, GAME) is virtually dead. Waiting in line to get a Diance Pokemon code from GAME, I could see that the PS4/XB1 spaces were massive and ran throughout the store (with 3 people buying XB1) whereas the WiiU was reduced to sharing a small space (in comparison) with Wii and DS games.

Nintendo really need to start doing more to get the WiiU more attention as it can do so much better and deserves to.

Strangely it's not really too far behind global XB1 sales but the media really do have a key role to play in this. With so many sites and papers mentioning about how poorly the Wii U is doing it puts people off investing in it. If anything Nintendo need to win the big media websites and papers first and then sales will come!
