Classic arcade shooter Sheriff is making an appearance in the new Super Smash Bros. games, blasting away rivals.
Shown off in a Miiverse update this week, the trophy is the pixel sprite from the 1979 game, who wanders about the stage and pops a pellet into unsuspecting characters.
Producer Masahiro Sakurai recalled the origins of Sheriff, where "players aim by choosing one of eight directions to shoot using a second joystick separate from the one that controls movement. It was quite a revolutionary game for its time."
He feels that this dual analogue approach was the "origin of modern shooting games."
