An interview with Yoshifumi Hashimoto, he explained the origins of the Forbidden Magna series.
"We asked the Rune Factory team if they wanted to create another Rune Factory, or if they wanted to branch out and create something else," Hashimoto said in an interview. "They wanted to challenge themselves with something else and that was the beginning of Forbidden Magna."
The game begun with the Neverland team, but when the studio closed, the project and some of the staff were moved into Marvelous AQL to finish up. The game, Hashimoto describes as an "action game without a grid," likening the Forbidden Magna mechanics to more of a "strategy RPG" than a traditional adventure game.
Forbidden Magna is out 2nd October in Japan.
