Fee Required to Remove Filtering on New 3DS Consoles on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

When the Nintendo New 3DS consoles launch in Japan, there'll come with a pre-installed content filter.

The new, improved consoles will come with extra processing power through an upgraded CPU, and so will support video playback through an improved web browser. With the potential for more dodgy content to be shown through the handheld, Nintendo are stepping in and enforcing a pre-installed content filter on the new system.

A 30 yen fee ($0.29/17p) will be required for those who wish to look at the darker corners of the world wide web, payable through a credit card to verify age.

What do you of Nintendo's approach to censorship?

Nintendo don't ask for a monthly/yearly fee to play online, this is more than forgivable.

I have to pay 30 cents on top of my Brazzers subscription!!!

THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS!!!!

Not too bad actually, though I suppose the fee is just to validate the credit card?

That might be the lowest possible payment you can do with credit cards (in Japan)? Not sure, since I don't have one myself.

The tiny cost is fine as its really not a charge, its a confirmation.
However, they better have non-credit card alternatives elsewhere.

I reckon that if this was brought to Europe then a Debit card would be fine.

Strange they haven't forced this with the Wii U...i occasionally use mine for the dirt on the net....Smilie
