Speaking to investors, Shigeru Miyamoto commented on the future of the series and explained the open world approach.
Announced during E3 last month, the new game aims to break some of the series conventions by having, what producer Eiji Aonuma calls, an "open world" approach. Reflecting on this to investors, he said that he prefer not to use the term when developing software, but it was used to "make it easier for consumers to understand."
For example, if there are eight dungeons, at the fourth dungeon, some players may think, "I'm already halfway through the game," while other players may think, "I still have half of the game to play."
Miyamoto wants to try to "gradually break down such mechanism and develop a game style in which you can enjoy 'The Legend of Zelda' freely in a vast world, whenever you find the time to do so."
Finally, he teased the future of the 3DS with ideas that "we have not announced yet, so I hope you will look forward to them."
