Feature | Lights, Camera, Action! Preview – Jersey Boys

Clint Eastwood's most recent offerings - J. Edgar and Hereafter - were a worry. It looked like the great man was losing his touch. However, the word from Hollywood is that his latest, Jersey Boys, looks like being a substantial return to form.

He is on unfamiliar territory with his very first musical based on the Tony Award-winning stage show of the same name about Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. Eastwood was determined not to cast big names as the group, instead choosing actors who had appeared in the stage show, playing their roles night after night. John Lloyd Young reprises his Broadway portrayal of Valli, while the only familiar face in the cast is Oscar winner Christopher Walken, playing a mobster.

Tracing the story of five young men from the wrong side of the tracks in New Jersey, the film is packed with the songs that turned The Four Seasons into superstars. From that preview featurette, which can be viewed above, it appears to be pretty dramatic as well!

Will audiences be humming all those songs as they leave the cinema? Does Clint Eastwood have a hit on his hands?

Jersey Boys opens around the UK, certificate 15, on Friday, 20th June, so there is not long to wait to find out…

Not my scene at all...I saw the trailer for this a few days ago and just immediately cast it out of my mind as 'What a load of rubbish!' I had no idea it was a Clint Eastwood film. Not that that makes any difference, though. I can't see this really appealing to more than a niche audience, surely?
