SK and Nintendo Split?
Breaking news seems to confirm it all...

We don't have many details, but it would seem we can now confirm to you that Silicon Knights, the company behind Eternal Darkness and the superb Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes is to split with Nintendo.

The reasons for this are unclear, but it is believed that the Canadian based development house wanted more freedom in its work than Nintendo would allow, and that both companies had different visions for projects and ideas.

The news comes as a major blow to Nintendo, with Silicon Knights helping the company to lose come of its 'kiddy image' with the very mature Eternal Darkness title.

It is also being reported that the developer is planning various titles for both the PS2 and XBOX consoles.

No official announcement has been made at present, but we can expect it to be made in the next few days as this news gets out to the public.

Update
IGN have been in contact with both Nintendo and Silicon Knights and seem to have gained official confirmation of the split.

"Silicon Knights and Nintendo have agreed to mutually part ways," Silicon Knights' president Denis Dyack confirmed.

"Nintendo and Silicon Knights have reached an agreement allowing Silicon Knights to pursue its vision of videogame entertainment with other companies," said a Nintendo of America spokesperson. "Nintendo respects the creative work of Silicon Knights and the parties have left the door open to work on future projects that meet the creative vision of both companies."

Asked if this would mean an end for Nintendo development for the Canadian development company, Denis Dyack responded: "No it doesn't. It's possible that we may do another game with Nintendo, actually. It just means that we've decided to break our exclusivity with Nintendo."

Expect a full and official statement from Nintendo soon.
