Rumor: Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS out in April 2014? on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

With 2014 fast approaching, unconfirmed dates for Super Smash Bros. are likely to pop-up, with GameStop having a first crack at it.

The major US retailer has popped down a potential release date for the much anticipated Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS as April 8th 2014. It's uncertain when next year Sakurai and his team will wrap up development on the forthcoming game, but it may well be a date to look out for it there's any truth in the listing.

Some are speculating that Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime may reveal more information during an appearance at the upcoming VGX awards.

That would be nice, but I really don't see that happening. Nintendo actually beating release day expectations with launching a major AAA title? I really doubt it. But I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

Personally, I see Smash Bros as Nintendo's 2014 Holiday tent-pole.

My expectation was Q1 2014.

Interesting that they have that date though. I somehow doubt a date has been set yet, but usually these placement dates are the end of the quarter (i.e. March 31) or beginning of the month. April 8, a Tuesday is oddly specific.

I can't see this happening at all. That would be really close to Mario Kart 8 which really wouldn't make much sense. It's much more likely second half of 2014 if it doesn't get delayed.

Agree with SirLinky here, Nintendo are going to been marketing Mario Kart like crazy (hopefully anyway) that releasing Smash Bros at the same time doesn't make much sense. Q4 methinks. Smilie Still....would be nice have it sooner than expected. Smilie

Exactly, they will probably tease it for an August release and delay it to more likely to be Oct/Nov release. 

I'd be shocked to see it come out so early to be fair.
