Nintendo 3DS Update to add Miiverse, Nintendo Network on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Players who own both Wii U and 3DS consoles will be able to finally register Nintendo Network IDs on both systems after a Nintendo 3DS system update.

The new software will allow players to share balances and access Miiverse on the handheld. Purchasing a game and have change left over on Wii U? The remaining money can be used on the 3DS eShop as well, Nintendo confirmed today.

Nintendo Network is still in development, however, with more features planned going forward. The IDs registered on both consoles have to be identical to ensure that the system picks up the user details however.

The 3DS update will be available this December.

I'll be the first to say; Finally!

Looks like Miiverse will be an option in the top bar of the 3DS menu. Thank god, expected it to be a regular selectable app. Smilie

So glad that Miiverse is finally coming to the 3DS. It has been a fantastic feature of the Wii U.

I wonder if communities for 3DS games will be only accessible via the 3DS and Wii U communities from the Wii U. I assume all would be accessible from the web.

Also glad to hear that account balances will be shared across both systems and it sounds like they have more plans for shared services in the future.

But then you wouldn't have been able to post screenshots from your games!

Fantastic news. Miiverse will completely change the way I play my 3DS. Now we just need TVii on WiiU Nintendo!!!!!!

Shared VC purchases would be ace too. :-P

One step closer to that unified account system we've all been asking for. I was quite satisfied with Nintendo Direct today, although there wasn't any big game announcements, the things that were revealed/announced are all great. Now all we need is shared VC purchases and I'll be happy.

What I hope is that the same PM message box will be shared accross the two consoles. That way I could check my PMs on Miiverse while hosting online on RE:Revelations on my WiiU, because not being able to PM someone while being online in a game on Wii U (you can't go to the Home Menu at all) can be frustrating sometimes, as PMs are not accessible from the web version of Miiverse.

What would be even cooler is both friends list being unified as well, and being able to see from either console what your friends are playing on the other system ^^ !

Finally, but then I dare not dream of it, *cough* *cough* both VCs being unified as well!! Meaning my NES games on one would carry to the other, but I can't imagine Nintendo being THAT generous...

All of this should definitely happen eventually. Would be nice to see Nintendo completely overhaul the 3DS system and force everyone to sign up to Nintendo Network. I know forcing registration isn't exactly a good thing, but having a proper account system is something everyone wants anyway.
