I'm Diddy! You know, Donkey Kong's mate! Ah, sod you all, I'm going to do a cart-wheel... Diddy Kong
The slightly more clothed Kong...

Introduction
Donkey Kong's smaller sidekick, despite being a completely different species of monkey, has accompanied DK along most of his many outings but did not join in the kidnapping of Peach, possibly because he was too young, or maybe he just does not like dating outside the genus.
Statistics
Age: 10.
Species: Unlike Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong has a tail meaning he is in fact a monkey not an ape, but is actually far closer to being a donkey than DK!
Location: In DK's tree house, deep in the jungle.
Birth: It is debatable about Diddy's real birth.  After Jumpman, aka Mario, rescued Daisy, DK Jr. was sent in to rescue his father in 1983.  The name Diddy was only given in 1984, so possibly DK never wanted Diddy to know he was the unwanted result of a night in the back of barrel…
Main Features: Diddy boasts the same large rubber like snout as DK, always showing a quite phased-out grin, along with no eyebrows, Mickey Mouse-like blue eyes and some quite awkward stubs of ears.  Like his father/friend DK, Diddy is no spring chicken.
Clothing: Also like DK, Diddy walks about with no trousers on.  However he took DK's idea a step further by wearing a red T-Shirt with a lovely star on and a juvenile cap to hide his hair for he cannot bear the shame of not having the same cow's flick DK has.
Concept
While DK is the brawn of the outfit (and basically the brains!) Diddy makes up for the annoying squeaky child face by being quick on his feet.  Of course, he could get nowhere without DK's strength, however at times in their partnership his ability to jump further has made sure they thwart the evil King K.Rool's plans for world domination (erm, by stealing DK's banana stash…).  But DK has also had a go at leading, taking even more annoying and juvenile apes under his wing and has even broken into cars, planes and hovercrafts to perform illegal street races.
Appearances
Not a bad appearance list, but nearly all of them have been in supporting roles with DK.  The job of a sidekick I suppose:

  • Donkey Kong Country (SNES, GBA)
  • Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest (SNES, GBA soon)
  • Donkey Kong Land (GBC)
  • Donkey Kong Land 2 (GBC)
  • Donkey Kong Land 3 (GBC)
  • Diddy Kong Racing (N64)
  • Donkey Kong 64 (N64)
  • Mario Tennis 64 (N64)
  • Mario Kart: Double Dash!! (GC)
  • Mario Party 5 (GC)
  • Mario Golf: Toadstool tour (GC)
  • Diddy Kong Pilot (GBA, now changed to Banjo Pilot)
  • Best Appearance
Diddy got his appearance with Donkey Kong Country, arguably the best DK game ever made.  And whilst he was not the main man (or monkey), he still got his fair share of usage due to the game's tag-team system.
    Don't Mention...
Conker, from Conker's Bad Fur Day.  Not only was Conker's first appearance in Diddy's first 3D solo outing, but the pesky squirrel became so much more popular than him that he got his own game which Rare then made into a completely adult experience, complete with vulgar experiences all the way…and is now currently awaiting another title on the XBOX!  This is the kind of attention Diddy has yet to receive...
    In closing...
Without Diddy where would DK be?  The answer to that is with one of the many other characters in the Kong Kingdom.  But Diddy made sure that DK's brawn was balanced out with a skinny, feeble and annoying little monkey, who has become his lifetime sidekick.
