Nintendo: More Cross-Platform Games in Development on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Nintendo have confirmed that more cross-platform titles are in development.

Speaking to VG247, Nintendo confirmed that there'll be a handful of titles that will allow Wii U owners to play with or alongside those on other platforms. One of these will be Pure Chess, which'll support cross-play with PlayStation 3 and Vita, with others including Disney Infinity and Cubeman 2.

Nintendo also re-affirmed that as a publisher the company are "committed to helping developers realise the full potential of their software on Nintendo systems," a representative said in a statement".

Do you think other publishers should open up the doors to cross-platform play for games like Call of Duty or FIFA?

Not possible because they're on Xbox platforms too. Microsoft restricts cross-platform play, which is why the only games you'll see feature cross-play between other platforms are games not on Xbox consoles.

If it becomes more commonplace on other systems, they may not have a choice but to change their policies. Their complete U-turn with the XBox One after it was destroyed by critics proved that when they don't have any other choice, they are ready to change if it means staying in the competition.

MS would only change that policy if big games started to not release for Xbox. e.g. If EA said they weren't bringing FIFA to Xbox because they want it cross-platform playable, maybe then MS would change its stance. But that wouldn't happen because it's a big earner anyway. It's the games that depend on online play where the developers have an unrestricted community vision in mind that MS will lose out on. MS has already missed out on a couple of bigger titles because of this - Dust 514 effectively became a PS3 console exclusive when MS said no to cross-platform play, and it's the exact same reason FF14 ARR is never coming to Xbox too. Developers believe in a less restricted online community but MS are being stubborn cunts about it.
