2D Fighter Yatagarasu Scrapped for Nintendo 3DS, Heads to PS Vita on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

The Nintendo 3DS version of 2D fighter Yatagarasu has been dropped from Nintendo 3DS in favour of PS Vita.

The project from Nicalis was originally announced for Nintendo 3DS, however due to an "overwhelming response from the fighting gaming community", the project has been scrapped in favour of a PS Vita version instead.

Known now as Legend of Raven, the project includes eight hand-animated fighters penned by the King of Fighters artist Kotani Tomoyuki, classic background artwork and multiplayer versus.

Should the game have been scrapped for Nintendo 3DS?

Sounds more like "overwhelming response from the financing department at Sony" to me.

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

Well to be fair, fighters haven't been performing very well on 3DS, and they may have performed a bit better on Vita, that's the impression I get.

Personally, even though I thought SF4 on 3DS was all well and nice, I can't really play a fighting game on a portable console. I like the comfort of larger controls for these.

Why cancel this game for the 3DS in favour of a system that's still on life support?!  It's just a matter of time before the Vita is buried and forgotten anyway...

While the system itself may not sell well, software for it sells about just as well as it does for most 3DS games. Not every 3DS game sells in the millions of copies like Animal Crossing in Japan. Most games we would consider "major" in the core gaming milieu sell a couple hundred thousands copies at most, and that's about what the most interesting Vita releases manage to sell in Japan, despite the much lower install base. Looking at the frequent sales charts over in Japan (OK perhaps not the most recent ones) shows this.
