Sakurai Considered Portable Super Smash Bros. Before Nintendo 3DS on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Producer of the Super Smash Bros. series Masahiro Sakurai revealed that he'd considered going portable earlier than the Nintendo 3DS.

Alongside the much talked about Nintendo Wii U version, Super Smash Bros. is also being developed for the Nintendo 3DS. However the latest Nintendo handheld isn't the only platform that tempted Sakurai, as he revealed he had "thought about it" previously.

To be honest, we purely didn't have the opportunity, it just never came up. And also, to speak freely, if you look at a handheld device preceding anything before the GBA, I don't know that it would have the capabilities to fully realize Smash Bros.

Would a GBA or Nintendo DS version of Super Smash Bros. have worked?
