An interview with Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma has highlighted the importance of 3D in the upcoming Link to the Past sequel.
The new game for Nintendo 3DS is a return to the 1991 world of A Link to the Past, introducing brand new dungeons, story and a 3D look. The new visual style and 3D mechanic plays an important part of the concept, and despite 3D being entirely optional, the team have been taking steps to ensure it runs smoothly on the console.
"The game runs at 60FPS, while all the 3D games up till now have run at 30fps. The faster the framerate, the more stable the 3D effect, so 60FPS is a big deal," Aonuma confirmed in an interview with the latest Edge magazine.
Despite the new 3D look, 3D will still be an optional feature for those who "always keep it switched off". The entire game, including puzzles, can be completed without 3D, but using it is beneficial and as said to be smooth as with it off.
What do you think of A Link to the Past 2? Will you play with or without 3D turned on?
