Karateka Remake Denied for Nintendo Wii U on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

The 3D remake of the 1984 classic Karateka is not heading to Wii U, according to the game's producer.

The original Karateka was developed by Jordan Mechner whilst studying at Yale university, originally programmed for Apple II and ported to consoles/home computers - including Nintendo Game Boy. It involved a protagonist who attempts to rescue Princess Mariko from the castle's armed forces as a side-scrolling and fighting game hybrid.

Mechner then went onto create the Princes of Persia franchise.

Now after many moons Mechner returned to Karateka to create an independently funded remake in 2012. A Wii U listing for the project had appeared on the ERSB several months ago, but there had yet to be an official announcement for a Wii U version on the eShop. However the project isn't coming to Nintendo consoles at this time, but it was considered "at the beginning of the project but never went into development".

The game is available on PSN, XBLA and PC.

Would you want to see the modern Karateka emerge on Nintendo Wii U?

Game has mediocre to terrible reviews on the platforms it is on. This is no loss.
