Etrian Odyssey is a super core franchise that seems to finally be breaking through with gamers and reviewers thanks to the fourth game, recently released on 3DS. Previous Etrian Odysseys have done well among fans, however they've failed to hit it big with a wider audience. The fourth game introduced attractive 3d enemy graphics and some of the best game design and balance in the series so far. That's translated to some buzz these last few months.

Riding on the crest of interest generated by EO IV, Atlus announced Millennium Girl, a remake of the first Etrian Odyssey. Millennium Girl is a departure from series staples. The director stated that the title would focus more on the story. Further, the game will no longer feature user creatable characters, instead featuring preset characters with stronger personalities and dialog, much like a Final Fantasy. Party characters will still be able to change classes, though skill points will be less abundant, leading to somewhat easier decisions in customization.

The new website features a wave of screenshots showing the characters, enemies, and settings of the game. Millennium Girl will see a release on June 27th and will cost 6,279 yen. No word yet on a release outside of Japan.
