Watch Earthbound Creator Itoi Play Through the Game Live this Friday on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Nintendo will be streaming an extra special playthrough session of Earthbound with creator Shigesato Itoi playing the game.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Famicom/NES, the company have been releasing a series of games on the cheap - 30c, 30p and 30 yen.

Japan, however, will be receiving a different game from Western players - the ever popular Mother II (known outside Japan as Earthbound). Creator Itoi is getting in on the action by playing through the game for the first time as a regular player on March 22nd.The event will be broadcast on Ustream at 8pm in Japan, which works out to the following:

  • 11:00 AM, Friday 22nd March GMT
  • 7:00 AM, Friday 22nd March EST
  • 4:00 AM, Friday 22nd March PST

This is very cool, I will try to watch a little, but I guess it's not worth watching fully till it's translated in English.

Would love to see other creators playthrough - like Miyamoto playing Ocarina, Aonuma walking through Skyward etc.

So, a kind of official Computer Game CX, Earthbound session to jog back our memories. It was such a strange experience at the time and I can't put a finger on it, but something about the dialogue and music made it work. I didn't think the backdrop or scenery were all that great to begin with but it was cosy in the end... very strange.
